This is the first [amazon_link id=\”007178294X\” target=\”_blank\” ]Perfect Phrases book[/amazon_link] that I have read and I am pleasantly surprised at how helpful it could be. The premise is to give managers and others involved in the company ready-to-use phrases to help drive certain facets. The phrases that are suggested for creativity are helpful and could really help to push things forward.
The first two chapters focus on phrases for yourself and your teams. There is some repeat in these chapters and by and large I found them the least helpful. One nice thing about this entire book is that it will serve as more of a reference than a book you read straight through. You may refer back to these first two chapters sometimes, but probably less than the rest of the book.
The third chapter is more helpful. It is on the structure of creativity and has some great questions and tools to break down the creative process and refine ideas. These are tools that you can implement immediately and effectively in your own organization.
The fourth chapter and the fifth chapter are excellent. They offer short tools to build your creativity through brainstorming techniques and changing your environment. These are the best in the book and a great, short overview of creative techniques (SCAMPER is one of my favorites, and a classic – summarized very well here). For more on these techniques, check out Thinkertoys: A Handbook of Creative-Thinking Techniques (2nd Edition)
The remaining three chapters are good as well, covering what do when successful and giving some helpful case studies. All in all, if you are looking for a reference book to build some creativity ideas in a team for your company, [amazon_link id=\”007178294X\” target=\”_blank\” ]this is a great choice.
