Tried and true tips to help you overcome writer’s block for good.

How many times have you started a project and not been able to finish it because writer’s block got the best of you? It can be tough to find your inspiration when all you want is to sit down and write, but nothing comes out.

Don’t worry; you’re not alone.

The good news is there are plenty of ways to get past writer’s block and start creating again!

Here are 9 techniques for overcoming writer’s block the next time it strikes:

Tip #1: Start with pre-writing exercises – One great way to get out of writer’s block before you even get started is to do some pre-writing exercises. This can be anything from freewriting for a set amount of time, outlining your story or characters, or brainstorming ideas. By getting all of your thoughts down on paper (or screen), you’ll be able to start the writing process with a clear mind and more inspiration.

Tip #2: Get organized – This may seem like an odd tip to overcoming writer’s block, but it can actually work wonders! When you’re feeling overwhelmed and have no idea where to start, getting organized can help put things into perspective. Break down your project into smaller tasks that you can complete one at a time and give yourself specific deadlines. Not only will this help keep you accountable, but it’ll also help you stay on track and motivated.

Tip #3: Set the mood – This one depends on your personal preference, but some people find that setting the mood can help them get in the writing groove. Whether it means playing a particular genre of music that inspires you, working in a quiet space, or taking breaks to do other activities, finding what works best for you is key.

Tip #4: Set realistic writing goals for yourself – When you’re struggling with writer’s block, it can be easy to become overwhelmed, resulting in a serious case of writer’s fatigue. By breaking down your project into small, manageable tasks and giving yourself deadlines, you’ll feel more motivated to complete what you set out to do! Celebrate the small wins – like writing a set amount of words per day or finishing a chapter of your book within a set period of time. Remember, you want to enjoy the writing process!

Tip #5: Sleep on it – Yes, you read that right! Sometimes, when writer’s block strikes, it could be a sign that you need to catch some ZZZs. This is a popular trick many authors use to help them overcome writer’s block and spark their creativity up again. Seriously, just try sleeping on it. Sometimes the answer will come to you in the middle of the night, and all you have to do is write it down when you wake up. Don’t forget to keep a notebook by your bedside to jot down those writer’s block breakthroughs!

Tip #6: Get inspired – Sometimes writer’s block is all in your head. When you’re feeling stuck, it can be helpful to get inspired by reading other authors’ work or watching movies that will help put things into perspective.

Tip #7: Write every day – This might sound like an obvious tip, but it can make all the difference. Writing every day will build up your creative muscles, so they don’t atrophy when writer’s block hits.

Tip #8: Take care of yourself – One of the most important tips for overcoming writer’s block is to take care of yourself! This means making sure you’re getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods, staying hydrated, and taking time for yourself. When you’re feeling run down or stressed out, it will be much more challenging to focus on your writing. By taking care of yourself, you’ll be able to get in the writer’s mindset and start writing like a pro!

Tip #9: Take a break – When all else fails, take a break! This may mean stepping away from your project for a day, week, or even longer. The important thing is that you don’t give up and lose motivation altogether. By taking some time off, you’ll be able to come back to your project with fresh eyes and renewed energy.
